[starttext]In June 2011, Greenpop took 100 volunteers to Platbos Forest for a weekend of planting, festivities, dirty hands and fun!

Parts of the ancient forest have been deforested over the years and we wanted to make a change - we managed to plant 1000 indigenous trees in 1 day!

[starttext]To celebrate World Environment Day 2011, staff members from MTN Western Cape joined Greenpop to plant 300 trees at 2 schools in Mitchell's Plain.
Great to see companies getting involved with schools in South Africa, meeting kids, planting trees and giving back.
A fun and educational day out for all involved.

[starttext]It was a privilege to spend a day filming on the Jammie steps at UCT. We watched the awesome GreenPop team doing what they do best – spreading the word about urban-greening. On this day, not only did they spread the word, they created a beautiful artwork in the process. With a high pressure hose and some stencils a dirty wall was transformed through reverse graffiti into an inspiring mural.

Thanks to the Green Campus Initiative at UCT and the GreenPop crew for yet another fun filled green day.

GreenPop #10 - tree 230-260

[postlink]http://makhulu.blogspot.com/2010/09/green-crusaders.html[/postlink]The first Greenpop flash mob went down a treat. 15 cyclist, skateboarders and sector-niners whizzed through rush hour traffic at 4pm on Friday 3 September. One of our green super heros spoke on Heart FM during the ride and got drivers to hoot if they recognised us. It was crazy, a green-caped brigade on De Waal drive!

Details of the first plant day!

Spring is around the corner and the GreenPop crew is very excited for Arbour month. We've been in touch with two pre-schools in Vrygrond and they've requested 15 trees each, so we need your help to get them into the ground, educate the children and make a difference in this community.

Vrygrond is on the outskirts of Muizenburg, about 30kms away from Cape Town. You can click on the map links below to see the exact locations and directions. Join us at either one of the two locations or at both!

There will be members of the press covering our Arbour Day activation and we've also arranged for some caterers to provide sandwiches for all the volunteers. The day will start at 10:30am and we expect to be done just after lunch, but we encourage everyone to stay a while and enjoy themselves.
